Outstanding Student Doctors’ Achievements

Our 1st and 2nd year Student Doctors from Imperial College London have swept the board, winning both the Top Prizes for their year groups, out of over 800 students. This is an outstanding achievement for them and the surgery.

Student Doctors Annie and Darwin, in their 2nd year at Imperial, decided to work on the new GP premises coming up on Kensal Road, and encourage the patients to contribute art work with the meaning of “What does community mean to you”. A number of patients responded to the call, with a collaboration since formed to incorporate the ideas into the design and overall theme of the building, built with our community for our community.

The presentation can be watched back here.

First Year student doctors Anab and Joyal discovered that the Massage Therapist service at the practice has had wider impact on patient’s overall wellbeing, not just their physical symptoms but ability to take forwards their everyday lives. The research was presented beautifully, and available here to see. This has resulted in wider recognition of the work of therapists in the community setting and allowed the much needed service to continue at the practice to benefit our patients.

Dr Viral Thakerer, Head of Course Imperial College London said,“We were very impressed with the quality of the community projects from Golborne West Ten GPs. The students showed genuine interest in the perspective of the community the practice services and how these could be incorporated into how the GP Surgery operates.”

Dr Yasmin Razak, GP Tutor said, “We are proud of our students achievements, who clearly value the work in Community settings such a Primary Care and wish them all the best for their future careers. We are also grateful to all of our patients and staff who have contributed. We look forward to more bright ideas in October with our new cohort of students!”
