Electrocardiogram (ECG)

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a simple test that can be used to check your heart’s rhythm and electrical activity.

Golborne Medical offer a resting ECG service for all patients registered in West London CCG. Please read the following information before your visit. Appointments are available Monday – Saturday with a Health Care Assistant (male or female)

How is the test performed?

Sensors attached to the skin are used to detect the electrical signals produced by your heart each time it beats.

These signals are recorded by a machine and show your heart rhythm and electrical activity as a graph displayed electronically and printed on paper.

The recordings then need to be looked at by our specialist doctor to see if there are signs of a potential problem.

How long does it take?

The test itself lasts 20 mins but please allow 45 minutes in order for the duty doctor to review your results before you leave.

Getting your results?

You will be given an immediate copy of your ECG for your own records and your own GP will receive a full detailed report which will be on your electronic clinical records at your surgery after 3 working days. Other tests may also be needed before it’s possible to tell you whether there’s a problem.
